Whether you live in the country or in the city, there are so many ways to grow together as a family, and to take part in what’s happening in your local community.
Families come in all shapes and sizes. As the family grows, it can be special time to invest in, and spend time in, the place where you live. It may be somewhere you’ve just moved to, or be a place where generations of your family have lived for years. Either way, it’s the place where children will grow up, so it makes sense to be part of it as much as you can, as a family.
When the schools break up for a holiday, some parent and child groups take a break too. But other activities do spring up in their place.
- Some churches or community centres organise holiday clubs or activity days for children and families during the school holidays.
- Many churches hold a fete or other activities during holiday time. Fetes have stalls and activities for all ages, so it’s a great way for people to come and spend time together as a whole community, and a chance to get to know people you might not otherwise meet.
- In some places there are street parties, or other community events that you can get involved with.
- If you know there are other parents or grandparents out there caring for children of a similar age, why not see if anyone would welcome a regular weekly time to meet at the park? Sharing your stories, and your ideas for the holiday time is a good way to get to know each other, while the children play.
